Introducing Matthew

Matthew is a fund analyst at Bowmore Asset Management, having joined the team in 2025. Matthew leads fund research across all asset classes and sits on the Investment Team’s Asset Allocation meetings. Prior to Bowmore, Matthew spent 6 years at Square Mile Investment Consulting & Research where he was a Portfolio Manager and previously a fund analyst. Matthew holds the CFA’s Investment Management Certificate and a degree in Business Management with Economics, Accounting and Law with First Class Honours from Bath Business School and Queensland University of Technology.

Tell me more

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Listening, talking and thinking about events in the news and in the markets with fund managers and professionals. No day is the same, and the variety and depth of conversations and solutions to complex challenges is endlessly interesting.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

I like to keep active by doing CrossFit three or four times per week. In the little free time that leaves me, I dabble in painting and learning Latin.

What made you decide to do the work you’re currently doing?

A natural interest in economics and the news cycle led me to want to engage more with how they shape our lives.

What is one personal rule that you never break?

When making a cup of tea, the milk goes in last.

What would your specialist subject be on Mastermind?

The history of the Roman republic, particularly the latter stages.
